Pat Pootchemunka

Pat Pootchemunka (1938) grew up in the boys’ dormitory at Aurukun Mission. When he completed his schooling he worked in the mission dairy and as a gardener, before being sent away to work. His work experience includes trochus diving in the Torres Strait, and various jobs involved with surveying and building roads for mining companies near Wiepa. In he later years Pat worked at the Aurukun Store. He is an active leader and player in singing, dancing and drumming for House Openings and other community cultural ceremonies.
