Monique Russell
Profile (Author/Illustrator)
Monique’s grandfather and Althea McKeon’s (Author of Sissy's Secret) grandmother are brother and sister. She is part of a large Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander family and has one brother. She was born in Victoria and spent part of her childhood in Malta and Spain. Since 2002, Monique and her family have lived in North Queensland where she attended school in Bowen. She has completed a Diploma in Education and now wants to go on to train as a Youth Worker. Monique’s first book was ‘Sam’s Fishing Adventure’, also set in the Torres Strait Islands. Like that book, the illustrations for Sissy’s Secret where done in coloured pencil on paper, outlined with a permanent marker.
